Dear 2021

Please Deliver Hugs

Thank God you’re here. Why did 2020 last for so many years?

Please help us personally, nationally, and globally.

Be good to us. We’re tired. We need some joyfulness. I for one need a hug.

Please give us hope that we can resume hugging. Hugging friends and family and new friends. And a hot guy with nice chest and strong arm muscles. I don’t care if I just met him and I’ll never see him again. I just want a hug.

Please give me hope to envision a dinner in a fancy schmancy restaurant with a well-mannered hot guy where I can order a medium filet mignon, pink, no blood please, and not be afraid I might die.

Help me to embrace, not fear bacteria. And not just intestinal tract bacteria. Make me unafraid of bacteria on a counter surface or a shopping cart handle.

Remember when infants used to apply their mouths to the shopping cart handle and their Mom was too busy to notice? Like that. No worries.

Help me to love all bacteria, including the bacteria on the menu I am holding, the bacteria on my phone and steering wheel, and even my own skin. Help me to love all bacteria except E. Coli.

Help bacteria and viruses to coexist.
