I remember in the 1980's when AIDS was sweeping through the gay communities and she sat and held hands with a hospitalized gay man. He was so emaciated.

This was when Pres Reagan was pretending like the epidemic wasn’t happening and an AIDS diagnosis meant sure death. The medical community hadn't quite gotten a fix on it and public perception was to be horrified, because 'what if you catch it?'

And there she was, sitting with him, touching him. She helped to destigmatize AIDS. I don't care if it was a photo op, she had courage and compassionate.
