Try is a Stupid Word

If You are Applying it to Your Goals, Reconsider

You’ve done it before. We all have.

You’ve said you were going to try to start working out.

Try to lose weight.

Try to get somewhere.

But you didn’t create the fitness habit, except for that first week. You didn’t lose weight, except for the temporary 5 lbs.

Why? Because the word “try” carries an implied detachment from a successful outcome.

There is an intention, but it’s not one of achievement.

Now, I am not referring to, “I’m going to try ziplining! I’ve always wanted to!”

Try ziplining! Maybe you’ll love it.

Case in point, few weeks ago, I met a friend for coffee. She had said she didn’t really want to eat because she was “trying” to fast.

It was too hot to sit outside so we went into the only place with seating. A restaurant. We ate tiny, delicious tacos.

I didn’t mention her fasting or her statement about fasting because it carried absolutely no weight of an intention to fast.

Why?

She wasn’t fasting. She was trying to fast. Big difference.
