When my daughter was 7 years old in the early 90’s she came home from a friend’s house, and she wasn’t in her body. Her body was there, but she wasn’t in it. She was gone.

I asked her what on Earth they had been doing and she said they had been playing Nintendo.

Right then and there I made a rule: No Nintendo. She agreed and on the very few times she wanted to, she’d ask, and I’d allow it as a reward for her honesty.

Years later, her high school had a strict No Phones rule. I sneaked her one so she could inform me of the variable pick-up times from ballet at her performing arts high school. That's all we used it for!

That was last century.

I can only imagine the nightmares parents have now, but you are making it crystal clear. I’ll be watching The Social Dilemma. Thanks for an excellent read, Stephanie.
